As a popular year round destination Clearwater does have it all. From our renowned white sand beaches to sports, recreation, dining, cultural attractions, shopping, festivals, amazing marine life and glorious weather it is an ideal place to play. Named by USA Today Florida’s Best Beach Town 2013, visitors enjoy their time exploring, relaxing and having fun. There is reason tourism thrives in Clearwater – expect the red carpet to be rolled out for you!
The Clearwater Regional Chamber has been welcoming visitors to the area for over 90 years. This year, along with support from the City of Clearwater and the Clearwater Marine Aquarium, the Clearwater’s Dolphins project came to life. Over 100 six foot tall fiberglass/resin dolphin sculptures have been uniquely and creatively decorated and are on display in over 10 counties in Florida. A Google map at tinyurl.com/cwdolphin was established for ease of seeing all the dolphins in A Dolphins Trail on public display. They range from sophisticated to folksy and patriotic to fantasy.
The Clearwater Marine Aquarium is home to Winter, the famous dolphin with the prosthetic tail who starred in her own blockbuster 3D movie, Dolphin Tale. Other stars included Morgan Freeman, Ashley Judd, Kris Kristofferson and Harry Connick Jr. in this filmed on location movie directed by Charles Martin Smith. Another must see attraction is Winter’s Dolphin Tale Adventure for a behind the scenes look at film sets and props used in the filming. Winter also participated in the Dolphins Project and painted one of the sculptures by holding a paint brush in her snout. This dolphin is on the Trail.
On a daily basis the free Sunsets at Pier 60 Festival features artisans, crafters, street performers and musical entertainment. It begins 2 hours before and lasts until 2 hours after the sun sets. On Friday and Saturday nights enjoy Sunset Cinema, a free outdoor film screening.
